Custom Protein Purification

Guild BioScience’s unique specialty is custom protein purification from natural sources. While recombinant proteins are often designed with purification processes in mind, natural proteins do not have this advantage and frequently present challenges to purification. That is why experts in both academia and industry come to Guild BioSciences to purify natural proteins.

Natural source proteins are unmodified and natively produced by their source organisms. Potential sources include microbial fermentation as well as cell cultures, tissues, and various biological fluids, such as blood, urine, and saliva. Natural source protein purification is generally more complicated than recombinant protein purification as there is no engineered tag to allow an easy separation of the protein of interest from the rest of the protein mixture. Consequently, custom purification procedures must be developed for a given natural protein. Guild BioSciences typically purifies these types of proteins using multiple separation technologies and multiple steps. Because each step will result in protein losses, it is imperative that these processes are developed and executed by experts in natural protein purification. Guild BioSciences is skilled in the use of chromatographic fractionations, the Waters HPLC system, batch or gravity-based chromatography, and non-chromatographic purification methods, such as organic or salt precipitation and ultrafiltration.

Because every protein is different, there is no standard approach that can be applied. Our process development approach requires frequent and concise interaction between Guild BioSciences and its customers. Ten years of solving the toughest purification problems and successfully delivering useful amounts of natural protein from a protein mixture has made us an expert in this field. Trust us with your most challenging proteins.
