Facilities
BioSafety Level 2 LaboratoryThe facilities at Guild BioSciences (GBS) house both the laboratories and offices located in Charleston, South Carolina. With a BioSafety Level 2 designation, the research facilities include a tissue culture room with humidified incubators for mammalian cell lines as well as molecular biology and biochemistry laboratories. |
The following permanent fixtures and equipment are contained within the facilities, allowing significant on-site investigation into molecular biology:
- Two Class 2 biosafety cabinets
- Two chemical hoods
- Millipore RO water purification system
- 5550 watt generator back-up power supply
- Millipore Deionized water system
- Biotek Synergy II multi-mode plate readers that measure absorbance, fluorescence and bioluminescence
- Biotek Powerwave XS2 absorbance reader
- Veritas Luminometer plate reader
- Labconco freeze dryer
- BTX ECM 630 electroporator, and 2 autoclaves
- Two autoclaves with sterilization capacity of 5 ft2 capacity
- 35 ft3 of -80°C storage capacity, 44 ft3 of -20°C storage capacity and 54 cubic feet of +4°C storage capacity
- Three digital controlled shaking incubators totaling 15 ft2 and two static incubators totaling 11 ft2
- Large-volume refrigerated centrifuges, 3 small-volume refrigerated centrifuges and 2 small-volume centrifuges
- DNA and protein gel electrophoresis systems
Specialty equipment includes Waters HPLC system, Isoelectric Focusing (IEF) system, two 1-gradient thermal cyclers, two lyophilizers, two photo-documentation systems with UV transilluminators, electroporator, fluorometer, two sonicators, spectrophotometer, sample smasher, and a Beckman Ultraspeed centrifuge.
Pilot-Scale Fermentation Facility
| Guild Associates has implemented a fermentation pilot plant to facilitate transitions from lab-scale to pilot-scale production, including investigations to enhance processing steps and product yield. The pilot plant is available to support our own bioscience initiatives, and to provide clients with the opportunity to leverage our expertise in pilot-scale fermentation and purification processes. We have experience working with genetically modified microorganisms, including bacteria and yeast, to produce a variety of refined end-products, such as proteins, enzymes, and bacteriophage. |
