GBS offers customized isolation and purification of both natural source proteins
and tagged recombinant proteins. Natural source proteins can be isolated from a
variety of starting materials, including intact tissues, homogenates, protein extracts,
cell pellets, and partially purified preparations. Because purifying proteins from
a natural source is more complex than processing recombinant proteins, more information
may be requested from you. See our
primer on natural source protein purification
for a more detailed explanation.
To isolate and purify your protein of interest, GBS will perform single or multiple
chromatographic fractionations using batch or gravity-based chromatography and high
performance liquid chromatography with a Waters system configured specifically for
protein purification. A variety of chromatographic methods may be applied, including
ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, hydrophobic interaction
chromatography (HIC), and reversed phase chromatography (RPC) as well as various
affinity-based methods. As part of this service, we request that you provide a means
or method of identifying your protein of interest.
GBS offers characterization of fully or partially purified proteins. Our basic report
provides key biochemical information about your protein of interest, including molecular
weight, isoelectric point, and relative hydrophobicity. Beyond our basic report,
we offer additional services to determine the post-translational modifications to
your protein as well as other more involved biochemical analyses.
Note: Customer is required to inform GBS if source material contains biological
toxins, or potentially infectious material and any special handling requirements.
